Weekly Roundup Episode 14

July 09, 2011 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Latest Game

It’s time for another Weekly Roundup! This week, we have our first voicemail question (!) from @tyrone_hawk, about how to get his wife to enjoy playing first-person shooters, instead of just watching.

Then it’s on to what we’ve been playing this week, the Gears of War 3 debacle, Civilization’s new Facebook offering, more on the Wii U, Sony’s PSN Pass…and the Mass Effect movie. Because they’re bringing it to San Diego Comic Con in some manner.

Hope you enjoy this week’s show!

As always, we encourage you to check out our partners in GamingAngels Presents: The Married Gamers, Game Dames and PrincessCast.

Nintendo President confused by Investor reactions during E3

June 11, 2011 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Latest Game

Nintendo focused this year’s E3 on two things: 3DS and the announcement of Wii U. The Wii U won’t go on sale until next year and because of that specifics on the new console/controller were not announced.

Perhaps this lead to the consumer confusion about the announcement because Nintendo shares fell almost 10 percent in two days after the press conference.

“Honestly speaking, the reaction to (Tuesday’s) presentation and what I heard from people I met and the mood of the convention did not chime at all with what happened in the stock market,” Iwata said in an interview at the E3 games show in Los Angeles on Wednesday. “It’s very strange.”

Iwata was quick to point out that people also doubted the Wii in 2006. The concept for the Wii U is to bring new gaming experiences to both casual and the more dedicated hard core gamers.

“In the end, it is easy to get the mistaken impression that this is just a game console with a tablet,” he said. “People who came to the presentation and tried it out have understood very well that it opens up a lot of new possibilities. But people who have not tried it will find it hard to believe that this controller will change things.”

Sony announces ‘Warhawk’ successor by LightBox Interactive

class="alignleft size-full wp-image-45352" title="Starhawkscreen" src="http://www.gamingangels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Starhawkscreen.jpg" alt="" width="415" height="282" />Starhawk, a successor to 2007′s Warhawk, is currently in production for an eventual 2012 release date, according to Sony. The game is currently in development at LightBox Interactive, which is in itself a successor to Incognito, the studio in charge of the original game. That’s confusing when you write it all out, but I hope it makes sense.

All was revealed on GameTrailers TV last night.

The third-person shooter will incorporate run-and-gun elements with a “Build and Battle” system, which will allow you to create a few tactical and strategic elements.

GameTrailers has a quick featurette on LightBox, and it’s worth a watch. Doesn’t show much of the game, but I’ll take the trade, I suppose. There’s a YouTube video up of the full segment — including gameplay — but embedding’s been disabled. Click away. (Also, if I ever work in an office, I would like it to be like theirs. The end.)

Square Enix cancels ‘Gun Loco’

March 19, 2011 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Latest Game

class="alignleft size-full wp-image-43883" title="GunLocoCancel" src="http://www.gamingangels.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/GunLocoCancel.jpg" alt="" width="561" height="352" />Gun Loco, the game inexplicably based on a series of vinyl figurines, was officially canceled by Square Enix this afternoon.

No official word on the reason for the run-and-gun’s canning, but the website’s been completely pulled.

Good luck to the development crew during this especially difficult time in Japan.
